How the model works

The simulator uses historical medal data from past Commonwealth Games, combined with population and GDP, to estimate a nation's base medal potential. Then it adjusts for the investment points you allocate to each sport. A sport with higher historical success for that country gets a bigger boost from investment.

We assume diminishing returns: doubling investment does not double medals. The model also includes a small random factor to reflect unpredictable events like weather or injuries.

Example scenarios

Common mistakes

Don't ignore population size. A tiny nation cannot win dozens of medals even with perfect funding. Also, avoid putting all points into one sport if that sport has few medal events.

Assumptions and caveats

The model does not know about recent coaching changes, athlete retirements, or political instability. It treats all nations equally aside from the inputs you provide. Always treat the output as a starting point for discussion.
